Look How Cute!

We took Chase to get his second hair cut on Monday to Cookie Cutters. His hair was out of control, going in all directions. I want to get our family pictures soon so I need him to look his best!

The place was really cute. Chase got to sit in a car (don't worry, he was buckled in) and the girl was really good, she cut his hair in less than 10 minutes, before he became impatient. When he was done, he was given a balloon (which he is still playing with a few days later) and a cookie cutter.

Why aren't you rich? This may be why...

I found this article this morning on Yahoo and found it to be very useful information...plus I know I'm guilty of 2-3 of these things! Ok maybe even more, I just don't want to admit it. Enjoy, and maybe this will make you rethink aspects of your lifestyle...

By the way, here's the link...I don't want to get in trouble for copying and pasting. http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/105934/10-Reasons-You're-Not-Rich

And here is the actual article:

Many people assume they aren't rich because they don't earn enough money. If I only earned a little more, I could save and invest better, they say.

The problem with that theory is they were probably making exactly the same argument before their last several raises. Becoming a millionaire has less to do with how much you make, it's how you treat money in your daily life.

The list of reasons you may not be rich doesn't end at 10. Caring what your neighbors think, not being patient, having bad habits, not having goals, not being prepared, trying to make a quick buck, relying on others to handle your money, investing in things you don't understand, being financially afraid and ignoring your finances.

Here are 10 more possible reasons you aren't rich:

You care what your car looks like: A car is a means of transportation to get from one place to another, but many people don't view it that way. Instead, they consider it a reflection of themselves and spend money every two years or so to impress others instead of driving the car for its entire useful life and investing the money saved. (I will admit we made the dumb mistake of trading in my Jetta after only a year into the lease because I thought I needed an SUV since I was becoming a mom...granted it is easier to have an SUV with kids, but I am not proud of the money we lost and I would totally be fine driving my Jetta today)

You feel entitlement: If you believe you deserve to live a certain lifestyle, have certain things and spend a certain amount before you have earned to live that way, you will have to borrow money. That large chunk of debt will keep you from building wealth.

You lack diversification: There is a reason one of the oldest pieces of financial advice is to not keep all your eggs in a single basket. Having a diversified investment portfolio makes it much less likely that wealth will suddenly disappear.

You started too late: The magic of compound interest works best over long periods of time. If you find you're always saying there will be time to save and invest in a couple more years, you'll wake up one day to find retirement is just around the corner and there is still nothing in your retirement account.

You don't do what you enjoy: While your job doesn't necessarily need to be your dream job, you need to enjoy it. If you choose a job you don't like just for the money, you'll likely spend all that extra cash trying to relieve the stress of doing work you hate. (Another mistake I made; I hate speech therapy! Or maybe I just haven't found my niche...or maybe it's because the salary in utah is incredibly sickening for having a master's degree and for all the work we do....)

You don't like to learn: You may have assumed that once you graduated from college, there was no need to study or learn. That attitude might be enough to get you your first job or keep you employed, but it will never make you rich. A willingness to learn to improve your career and finances are essential if you want to eventually become wealthy. (This is one thing I am taking action on!)

You buy things you don't use: Take a look around your house, in the closets, basement, attic and garage and see if there are a lot of things you haven't used in the past year. If there are, chances are that all those things you purchased were wasted money that could have been used to increase your net worth. (I think we are all guilty of this one...thank goodness for ebay and craig's list! Your junk is someone else's treasure)

You don't understand value: You buy things for any number of reasons besides the value that the purchase brings to you. This is not limited to those who feel the need to buy the most expensive items, but can also apply to those who always purchase the cheapest goods. Rarely are either the best value, and it's only when you learn to purchase good value that you have money left over to invest for your future.

Your house is too big: When you buy a house that is bigger than you can afford or need, you end up spending extra money on longer debt payments, increased taxes, higher upkeep and more things to fill it. Some people will try to argue that the increased value of the house makes it a good investment, but the truth is that unless you are willing to downgrade your living standards, which most people are not, it will never be a liquid asset or money that you can ever use and enjoy.

You fail to take advantage of opportunities: There has probably been more than one occasion where you heard about someone who has made it big and thought to yourself, "I could have thought of that." There are plenty of opportunities if you have the will and determination to keep your eyes open.

I hope this article makes you stop and think about what you could be doing differently! It's never too late to change your lifestyle! Take a stand and do something about your life to improve it.

Cute Toy on Clearance at Walmart!

I just bought this cute Leapfrog radio dj toy from Walmart for Chase's first birthday coming up. I've had my eye on this toy for awhile and it must have been my lucky day on...(i have no idea what day I went to Walmart this week, maybe Tuesday?). Anyway, I found the toy on clearance, it was previously $20 and Walmart had it for $11. I believe the $9 I saved is enough to get me a Cafe Rio salad! Just thought my friends with young ones around 1 year of age might be interested with the holidays comping up. The radio has a bunch of different counting songs, teaches the alphabet, etc. etc. It also got rave reviews on amazon. That's basically how I decide which toys to buy, I always check amazon first to read reviews.

Anyway, check for some real updates and more pictures soon!

Look to Your Right...For Easy Cooking Solutions!

If you are very perceptive, you may have noticed I added yet another column of info on the right side of my blog...I added, or rather started (because I hope to add many more), a list of websites with very easy recipes, made with items you most likely have in your kitchen, like yogurt, Swanson broth, and Prego spaghetti sauce (or you could use any brand of sauce, really).

If you are like me, with a baby at home and a mile long list of chores and other things to just accomplish in life (and some of you even have a job outside of the house on top of everything else!), dinnertime can just cause migraine headaches! I didn't even make dinner last night because I really did have a migraine headache. And nothing really got accomplished at all yesterday because of it, which puts me behind today...oh my head is spinning!

Anyway, the point of this post is to let you know if you are looking for something to make for dinner with fairly cheap ingredients, click on one of the websites and have fun searching. If you have any good cooking websites you know of, leave a comment and let me know so I can add that to my list and have more choices to choose from (because the more choices for Jason and my very picky son who still won't really eat anything besides milk, the better).

Now I must go and take advantage of this time I have due to a sleeping baby and take a shower so I can get some errands done today.

Before I go, I have also posted 2 inspiring blogs to my right. Many of you might already read them and know the story (it was also on the Today show but I missed that episode), but if not, I will provide a brief summary of them: The 2 blogs are actually 2 sisters. One of the sisters, Nie, was in a plane crash in August with her husband and was severely burned. The other sister blogs about her recovery and other struggles in life. And also reposts old posts on Nie's blog while she is recovering. Anyway, I encourage you to read these blogs. They will in some way, make you a better person and appreciate life more. I have great admiration and respect for these sisters who I don't even know!

Good Cereal Choices for Kids (and Adults)

I found another beneficial article related to our children. This time, it was about which cereals have the lowest sugar/highest fiber content. Here is the list...you can make sure your kids are eating somewhat healthy and try to balance out all the mac and cheese and hotdogs they love eating!

Cereals Rated Very Good
1. Cheerios (General Mills)
2. Kix (General Mills)
3. Life (Quaker Oats)
4. Honey Nut Cheerios (General Mills)

I was so happy, these are all some of my favorites! And if you know me, I am a cereal addict, I always have 9-10 boxes of cereal in my pantry.

Rated Good:
5. Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size (Kellogg's)
6. Frosted Flakes Gold (Kellogg's)
7. Cookie Crisp (General Mills)
8. Golden Grahams Honey Graham (General Mills)
9. Lucky Charms (General Mills)
10. Cocoa Puffs (General Mills)
11. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (General Mills)
12. Trix (General Mills)
13. Reese's Puffs (General Mills)
14. Fruity Pebbles (Post)
15. Honey-Comb (Post)
16. Cocoa Pebbles (Post)
17. Frosted Flakes (Kellogg's)
18. Cocoa Krispies (Kellogg's)
19. Frosted Flakes Reduced Sugar (Kellogg's)

Rated Fair (in other words, these are the ones you should not be feeding your kids, or at least not very often-some of them are 50% sugar!)
20. Cap'n Crunch's Peanut Butter Crunch (Quaker Oats)
21. Cap'n Crunch (Quaker Oats)
22. Rice Krispies (Kellogg's) -these were found to have little sugar but hardly any fiber either; there's no real benefit to eating rice krispies
23. Apple Jacks (Kellogg's)
24. Froot Loops (Kellogg's)
25. Golden Crisp (Post)
26. Honey Smacks (Kellogg's)
27. Corn Pops (Kellogg's)

There you go! The reason the study was done was because many children's cereal boxes got rid of the word sugar on the outside and replaced it with the words "added fiber" to appear healthier....when in reality some of these cereals have a lot more sugar and very little fiber so don't be fooled!

By the way, the numbers do represent which cereal was in fact #1, #2, #3, etc. for highest fiber/lowest sugar content.

Alert for Parents: Booster Seats

I don't know how many of you parents already saw this article, but I am sharing the info from it right here. Many booster seats have been found not to be safe in car accidents and actually put kids in positions where they will be injured. I hope you don't own one of them and if you do, buy a different one!

So here are the 13 WORST booster seats:

Compass B505, Compass B510, Cosco/Dorel Traveler, Evenflo Big Kid Confidence, Safety Angel Ride Ryte, Cosco/Dorel Alpha Omega, Cosco/Dorel (Eddie Bauer) Summit, Cosco Highback Booster, Dorel/Safety 1st (Eddie Bauer) Prospect, Evenflo Chase Comfort Touch, Evenflo Generations, Graco CarGo Zephyr, and Safety 1st/Dorel Intera.

And now, the BEST TOP rated booster seats that you should buy:

Combi Kobuk, Fisher-Price Safe Voyage (with plastic clip), Graco TurboBooster, Britax Monarch, Britax Parkway, Fisher-Price Safe Voyage (highback), LaRoche Bros. Teddy Bear, Recaro Young Style, Volvo booster cushion and Safeguard Go when it's used as a backless booster.

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about booster seats for another 3-4 years. But I'm guessing the list probably won't change too much by then.

Another Great Xmas Find!

So I bought another Xmas gift for Chase. This water table was rated one of the top toys of 2008 and got rave reviews from fellow purchasers on amazon. So if you have a toddler, you may want to think about putting this on the list! I really am hoping he will be walking by christmas so he can enjoy his gifts! But if not, I can always help him stand at his water table so he can splash in it. I can't wait for Xmas! We didn't even get to really celebrate it last year...but this year there is no colic to ruin our holidays!
