Good Cereal Choices for Kids (and Adults)

I found another beneficial article related to our children. This time, it was about which cereals have the lowest sugar/highest fiber content. Here is the list...you can make sure your kids are eating somewhat healthy and try to balance out all the mac and cheese and hotdogs they love eating!

Cereals Rated Very Good
1. Cheerios (General Mills)
2. Kix (General Mills)
3. Life (Quaker Oats)
4. Honey Nut Cheerios (General Mills)

I was so happy, these are all some of my favorites! And if you know me, I am a cereal addict, I always have 9-10 boxes of cereal in my pantry.

Rated Good:
5. Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size (Kellogg's)
6. Frosted Flakes Gold (Kellogg's)
7. Cookie Crisp (General Mills)
8. Golden Grahams Honey Graham (General Mills)
9. Lucky Charms (General Mills)
10. Cocoa Puffs (General Mills)
11. Cinnamon Toast Crunch (General Mills)
12. Trix (General Mills)
13. Reese's Puffs (General Mills)
14. Fruity Pebbles (Post)
15. Honey-Comb (Post)
16. Cocoa Pebbles (Post)
17. Frosted Flakes (Kellogg's)
18. Cocoa Krispies (Kellogg's)
19. Frosted Flakes Reduced Sugar (Kellogg's)

Rated Fair (in other words, these are the ones you should not be feeding your kids, or at least not very often-some of them are 50% sugar!)
20. Cap'n Crunch's Peanut Butter Crunch (Quaker Oats)
21. Cap'n Crunch (Quaker Oats)
22. Rice Krispies (Kellogg's) -these were found to have little sugar but hardly any fiber either; there's no real benefit to eating rice krispies
23. Apple Jacks (Kellogg's)
24. Froot Loops (Kellogg's)
25. Golden Crisp (Post)
26. Honey Smacks (Kellogg's)
27. Corn Pops (Kellogg's)

There you go! The reason the study was done was because many children's cereal boxes got rid of the word sugar on the outside and replaced it with the words "added fiber" to appear healthier....when in reality some of these cereals have a lot more sugar and very little fiber so don't be fooled!

By the way, the numbers do represent which cereal was in fact #1, #2, #3, etc. for highest fiber/lowest sugar content.

I'm so glad that Reese's Puff's are on the good list. Those are my FAVORITE food EVER! I eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then sometimes a late night snack!

I LOVE all the cereals in the top 4, what great news! I also really like a lot of the "good" ones too and luckily none the "fair" ones are my favorites.
