Since I am terrible at keeping in touch, and I am sure it won't get much better now that I have a baby, and since everyone else I know is now blogging, I figured we would jump on the bandwagon. Our biggest news is our new son, Chase Hudson Conklin, born on November 30. He was 7 lbs 1 oz and 20 in. long. I was thrilled he came out so small. We had a little healthscare with his heart. His heart rate is much lower than a typical baby's which is 120 beats per minute. Chase's was down at 80 bpm. He had to have an EKG to make sure his rhythm/structures were normal, which luckily they were. We had to have him on a heart monitor the first few days after we took him home, which was kind of stressful. An alarm was set to go off if his heart rate dropped below 60 bpm. Luckily, the alarm never went off. We went to our pediatrician the following Wednesday, Dec. 5, who had gotten in touch with the cardiologist at Primary Children's Hospital. That's when we received great news, that his heart was perfectly normal and just really efficient already for a 5 day old baby. I feel very blessed that it turned out so well and am relieved to have a healthy baby.
As for me, I finally finished my thesis and defended it Nov. 1, a few weeks before Chase came. I think I work better under stress. I had all summer to work on it but didn't start finishing the Results or Discussion section until the end of August. So now I can finally graduate with my Masters degree in Communication Disorders. I couldn't be happier to finally be done with school!
Jason is also doing well, he continues to work at Prosper and has many ideas for business ventures. He is a great dad and is thrilled his son is finally here.
Now I have to tend to a screaming baby, who has already messed up his diaper after I changed it just 10 minutes ago. I cannot wait until the diaper changing is over with...just 2 more years.
