8 weeks old and such a big boy!

Chase had his 8 week appointment on Monday. He is 23 1/2 inches tall now, which puts him in the 70th percentile for height, weighs 12 lbs (5oth percentile), and has a small little head. He is in the 45th percentile for his head. Thank goodness his head was small, if it were any bigger labor may have been way more complicated! Anyway, as for what I found out about his incessant crying...just what I thought, he is colic. He is a perfectly healthy baby boy who screams. I remember reading baby books before he was born and praying not to have a colicky baby...well I got just what I didn't want! He also has food allergies, he has bumps all over his skin. So I changed his formula to one that is made just for babies with colic and food allergies. If his fussiness doesn't lessen in the next week, the doctor has a medicine for us to try. Of course, I want that medicine now! But we will see, he has been on this formula for 48 hours and it seems like he's not as fussy but I'm not getting my hopes up yet! Anyway, colic lasts until around 4-6 months. Hopefully I can last that long, or get that medicine. I don't know that I can take 8-16 more weeks of screaming. He does really well when we are out, he actually sleeps. He loves the car and getting pushed around in a cart or stroller. So I will just have to take an outing everyday so he gets his nap and I can have a break from crying or the house.

How long have you been together?
Our first date was Sept. 2002. We actually knew of each other in NY from being in the same ward but didn't really talk. But when he came out to Utah the summer of 2002, I jumped at the chance to go out with him. We had a ton of fun together (amazing how much getting married and having a baby changes that-not that we still don't have fun, but it's different) We finally got married June 2006. And it's been one big adventure!

Who said "I Love You" first?
We knew within a month of dating that we loved each other. I remember we were both trying to get the other person to say it first. Jason would always tease me like he was going to say it then would proceed to say something else. I think he finally gave in and said it first.

Who is smarter?
Jason is definitely smarter when it comes to business/real estate/Who wants to be a millionaire show. I am smarter with other things...I don't know what anymore, the past 8 weeks with little sleep has left my brain fried.

Who Pays the Bills?
Well Jason makes all the money so I can stay home, but I actually write the checks and take responsibility for getting the bills paid...Ha when I married Jason I found out he had hundreds of dollars in late fees that he owed to the water company, gas company, electricity..etc etc. He also had his water turned off quite a few times. He is not allowed to ever be in charge of bills! Now, he is very wise with money, he just forgets to pay the bills. They end up in a pile on the counter and he never thinks about them again.

Who Cooks Dinner?
Jason has cooked dinner about 4 times total since we've been together-once or twice the first week after the baby came. Other than that, its all me when I'm in the mood...let's just say we eat out a lot, or we used to! I am trying to become much better with cooking. It just is hard with a screaming baby. But it's definitely much healthier to eat at home! If you do eat out alot, like us, I recommend the book Eat This Not That. The author was on Ellen the other day and it seems like a very interesting and informative book. In fact, I plan on ordering it myself. I don't need to get any fatter, I'm trying to lose weight!

Who drives when you're in the car together?
Jason always wanted me to because he would be so tired on the weekends from work. But now that the baby is here he always drives.

Who is the most stubborn?
Jason wins! I can be every so often, but he is so much more!

Who wears the pants in your family?
It depends...if its household related, usually me, but anything else is Jason.

Okay, now three random things about me:

1. It's always been my dream to live in a big city...why, who knows, with rats, cockroaches, small spaces, high prices...I guess I just love all the hustle and bustle, the endless things to do, and the excitement of it all. But now I don't think I will ever get that chance...unless PG counts?

2. After taking classes in traumatic brain injury and aphasia and working in a rehab hospital with those types of patients, I have a huge fear that something will happen to my brain. Anytime I have a headache I am scared I have a blood clot in my brain and am going to have a stroke. I also would probably wear a helmet everywhere if I wouldn't look so ridiculous! I know, I know, I need to live a little...but seriously, those poor people were so miserable, my heart goes out to them. I don't want anything like that to happen to me!

3. When I was 15 I had this ridiculous obsession with Leonardo DiCaprio. It was after Titanic came out and I thought he was the hottest thing ever! I was actually convinced that one day I would marry him. I would go to NY or L.A or wherever he was living and somehow win him over when I was old enough. Yeah glad that didn't happen! Jason is much better looking than he will ever be and a million times better of a husband.

Now, you it's time for you three to do this!
1. Misty
2. Shelby
3. Lara
I don't even know if you guys look at my blog, but I guess we'll find out!

A few more pictures while he is still sleeping...

Chase has also been... looking cute
practicing tummy time
sleeping once in awhile
looking cute

playing with his gym

More pictures of what Chase has been up to...

Chase has been... Crying
Swinging at his sun in his bouncer
Waiting while mom prepares the bath
Looking surprised
Hanging with dad

I'm annoyed with our camera, in all his pictures he has red eyes

So here are those pictures...finally

Ha his left eye (his left, your right) is doing what mine does when I smile

This is one of my favorites, it looks like he's saying, "Hey wassup!
He's so dang cute when he's not crying! Anyway, it looks like maybe I spoke too soon. He has been screaming all day today and finally went down at 3:17 for a nap (it's now 5:48 as I write this, which means he will be up any minute.) I should be taking advantage and cleaning (I already took a short nap) but instead I'm blogging. I guess that's important too. Anyway, I am glad he's getting a good nap. At this age he is supposed to sleep 15-16 hours a day still and he is maybe sleeping 12 hours a day. Maybe I would get more done if he actually napped like he is supposed to! Luckily our 8 week appointment is Monday so I will be asking our doctor lots of questions. I was going to bring him sooner then his crying got a lot better and I know that some babies are just more fussy.
by the way, I know nothing about how to make my blog look cool, though I did figure out how to change backgrounds. I have no idea how to add friends blogs to mine, or do slideshows of pictures, which would be nice to know rather than posting only 5 pics at at a time...perhaps one day I will have the time to learn

Mr. Smiley

This post is all about Chase, since he's basically the reason I started the blog. He is doing well. We went through a period of lots of fussing (it was intense) from about week 3 thru week 6. It seemed like all he did when he was awake and wasn't eating or in the tub he was screaming, a terrible high pitched shrill scream. I am pretty sure he had some form of colic. He also hardly napped so I bet exhaustion played a part as well. It is starting to get better. He naps 3 times a day for about 20 min. to an hour each time. He is sleeping really well at night and only gets up once to eat, sometimes twice. We have established a bedtime and routine for him and usually he goes to bed without a fight, though not always! He still is quite fussy, but not as much as he used to be, so my life has gotten somewhat better. When he is fussy he is able to be consoled, unlike before. The biggest news is he has started to smile and it is so adorable. It's fun finally being to interact with him and get a reaction from him. Anyway, my computer battery is about to die and I do need to get to bed since it is almost midnight and I will have to get up in a few hours, but pictures will be posted tomorrow!

Quick Updates

So almost a month has passed since I last wrote. Sadly, not much has happened! I guess in a way that's a good thing, we have no bad news to report. Christmas came and went and was pretty lame...It's hard having a baby during the holidays. I was too tired and busy to care that Christmas was even coming. We didn't decorate at all, I didn't get any shopping done, and we didn't go anywhere to see our family. It just didn't feel like Christmas. I hope next year I can enjoy the holidays more. Jason won a cruise at work that goes to Cozumel, Mexico. It is from Feb. 6th to 11th. I don't know too much about it but am excited for a little break. I get a little teary eyed when I think about leaving Chase for a few days but know I will come back energized and refreshed and will be a much better mom. Right now I am exhausted and don't have much time to myself. I am too busy taking care of him, playing with him, napping when I can (that usually lasts about 20 minutes, Chase is a terrible napper) and trying to clean the house and cook dinner. Chase is very high maintenance and I could use a little break. Jason hired 2 different cleaning ladies to ease my burden, but sadly we weren't impressed with either of them. They did a mediocre job and it is not worth the money. The second cleaning lady charged $70 and wasn't even at my house an hour! So I decided no more cleaning lady, I will just have to somehow find the time and reward myself with something nice from the money we're saving. Or maybe I'll get a personal trainer instead to help get rid of this baby weight/grad school weight...
